Description

Montevertine started in 1968 when Sergio Manetti acquired a property in the high elevation town of Radda in Chianti in the heart of Chianti Classico. Manetti was a firm believer of the quality wines Sangiovese can produce, and therefore left the Chianti Classico Consortio that required at the time the use of the white- and neutral- grape variety, Trebbiano Toscano.

That switch established Montevertine as one of Tuscany's original Super Tuscans, with the first release in 1981 However, unlike other Super Tuscans, such as Ornellaia, Sassicaia, Tignanello, etc. that are based on International grape varieties, Montevertine's aim was to produce exceptional quality wines solely with the native Sangiovese.

Pian de Campiolo is sourced from a small 1.5 ha vineyard facing east and northeast. These north-facing vineyards enjoy a long growing season, ideal for the production of elegant style of Sangiovese. The vineyard was replanted in 2003 with 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino, traditional Tuscan varieties that round up the blend. The wine is aged for about 18 months in large, old Slavonian Oak casks.

This wine pairs elegantly with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, pasta with tomato-based sauces, and aged cheeses. Its acidity complements the richness of food, making it a versatile choice for many culinary experiences.
